USTEAA(USA) Answers their Pleas
The Ondoy Fund Drive

By Caridad B. Goze, ChE ‘65

It started with emails being circulated showing the horrendous destruction caused by Ondoy in the Philippines.

A fund drive for the Ondoy victims in Metro Manila was immediately organized by USTEAA (USA) in October 2009.  Jocelyn Mijares-Jalijali (ChE ’65) graciously volunteered to chair the project.  Estela Pelayo and Irene Salazar (ChE ’75), former UST Engineering faculty members, also volunteered to tell their former faculty colleagues and friends about the fund drive.

USTEAA (USA) members and friends responded enthusiastically and generously to the call for donations.  Including the $300 donation of USTEAA (USA), a total of $2420 was raised. Through the help of Dr. Benedicta Alava, Head of Engineering Sciences Division of UST Faculty of Engineering, the peso equivalent of the total fund raised was remitted to Tulong Tomasino, the fund-raising project for Ondoy victims of the UST Central Student Council.

Thank you, all, for your generosity and quick response to our kababayans’ pleas for help! ■
