Music is the language of the soul; music is the messenger of the heart; music is a prayer. What better, lovelier and more meaningful way is there to start the Christmas Season but with music, music, and more music?
This was the concept behind the second fund raising concert featuring the Kayumanggi Chorale, organized and sponsored by the USTEAA and held at St Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater, NJ, last December 3, 2005.
To achieve our goals, however, we need everyone’s participation. Current members are now forging ahead to bring the association to new heights. We now call on other fellow alumni to join us in making our organization a true fellowship in our professional, social and public service undertakings.
site, usteaa.org) for the next two years was proposed and adopted with earnest. Now, the USTEAA embarks on a course filled with intense hope and renewed ambition.
The chilly evening reminded everyone that Christmas was just around the corner. The impact was greater when the church started to be filled with the melodious songs rendered by the chorale. The repertoire of the versatile singers included the Christmassy music that seems to live forever in our hearts; the patriotic songs that keep us rooted to both the land of our birth and the land where we now live; the lively and lilting beat of Filipino folk songs, the serious musicals of Broadway, the reverential and eloquent prayer in the Ave Maria.
The Chorale’s performance was without question brilliant and superb. One hoped that the songs would just have gone on and on.
But of course the concert had to end. And it did, amid the applause and standing ovation of the very appreciative audience who were then ushered into a hall for a get-together over coffee, soda, cookies and the oh-so-delicious “Beth’s Pancit”.
And then again, as alumni, families and friends gathered, no one wanted to leave until it was repeatedly announced that the hall had to be closed for the night. A group of St. Bernard Parishioners who attended the concert thanked us profusely for bringing to them a very beautiful Christmas evening with the Kayumanggi Chorale. On that lovely note, the night finally ended.
An extra note was added to the music: we earned some funds for our scholarship program. Our most grateful thanks to all who helped!
