An Informal Affair to Remember
By Ray Zipagan, ElE ‘70
With an attendance of over seventy people, one of the most successful events for USTEAA (USA) in 2008 was the Informal Dinner Dance held on September 13, 2008 at the Holiday Inn in Carteret, New Jersey. The affair was memorable as a job for engineers that turned an austerity gathering into a prosperity event.
What made the evening a stand-out was the wonderful camaraderie among the members and guests. It was particularly gratifying to see attendees who managed to come all the way from Maryland, like Danny Bengero and Angelo Ramos, ME ’72, and from Missouri, like Rolly Corpuz, ChE ’72, to join us. Besides great food and lots of line dancing led by Bhoi Lopez, there was some extra excitement with the sale of the 50/50 raffle tickets with jackpot totaling $360. Most importantly, the occasion gave everyone a chance to have fun, celebrate and enjoy the company of fellow alumni.
As always, the help and support of the USTEAA board members made the evening a success. Pre-planning was a major key to the event, as there were a number of important tasks to complete prior to the occasion. Many thanks to Beth de Guzman for selecting the ideal venue, Jocelyn Jalijali for being the event coordinator extraordinaire, Carrie Goze and Roly Catiis for ably handling the finances, Joey and Kathy Lozada for producing the place cards, Tinny Ouano and Evelyn Masaoy for putting together the newsletter for our guests to know about USTEAA and our vision for its future.
And for those who tied the event together, doing all the ‘day of’ tasks, we couldn’t have done it without you! These people include Alice Francisco who collected unpaid dues, Ron Zipagan who was the DJ, Bong Alcid who was the official photographer, and Les Mariano who was the MC for the night.
Thanks to all who participated and made it a wonderful memorable event for all! ■
