Updates from our Scholars

The latest addition to the roster of deserving USTEAA (USA) scholarship recipients is Mary Grace Lim Casuncad, who joined the 2009 freshman Civil Engineering class at UST.  Mary Grace recently shared with the Scholarship Committee her schedule of classes for the next semester, and the transcript of her grades for the 2nd semester of freshman year.

Our most recent graduate scholar is Bjenvol M. Magno, who graduated B.S.E.C.E Cum Laude in March 2009, and is currently busy preparing for the board exams in October.

We have two previous scholars who have successfully joined the workforce. Joanna Marie Solomon, who graduated B.S.C.E Cum Laude in 2008, works for a United Arab Emirates construction company.  Kristine Karen Bulante, who graduated B.S.Ch.E Cum Laude in 2003, is a process engineer for JGC Philippines, Inc and recently completed a 1-year assignment in Yokohama, Japan.

Below are edited excerpts of Mary Grace’s acknowledgement letter and Bjenvol’s letter on his graduation.

Dear USTEAA (USA),

Tomorrow, March 28 2009, will be our much anticipated graduation day. With hard work, faith and inspiration, I am fortunate to graduate cum laude. As I recall the five stressful yet meaningful years of my academic life, I realize how blessed I am to obtain this precious engineering degree in this prestigious university. Life’s hardships have turned into opportunities that helped me transform into a better individual. I must say that the scholarship granted to me by the UST Engineering Alumni Association (USA) is the best blessing that I have received throughout my college life, a blessing that opened even brighter opportunities like being part of the respected scholars association and graduating Cum Laude.  Without this scholarship, I would have dedicated less time and effort to my studies and would have been contented with a passing mark like most ordinary students.

Now, as I face another challenge of passing the ECE Board Examinations this coming October, I hope that I will live up to what is expected of me to be a licensed Thomasian engineer. This May, I will start reviewing for the Board Examinations.

As I leave college, I wish to maintain my connection with the association.  I hope that somehow, with my undertakings and this letter, I have expressed my heartfelt gratitude to the USTEAA (USA).  And may you continue to fulfill the dreams of more and more aspiring engineers like me. I would like to congratulate the association on producing another competent engineer imbued with Thomasian values. God bless!

Sincerely yours,
Bjenvol M. Magno

A warm Thomasian greeting!

I am Mary Grace Lim Casuncad, a freshman enrolled at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Engineering.  An individual whose life is about to change because of a miracle that God has bestowed upon me on the day that you and the entire USTEAA (USA) granted me the privilege and honor of being the USTEAA scholarship grantee for five years.

I would like to thank all of you personally for this benevolent gesture which you have accorded me.

With the best of my potentials and with the guidance of the Almighty, I will do my best in order to keep the scholarship grant, and exploit the opportunity that your gracious office has given me. The USTEAA has given me an opportunity to prove myself, to be somebody and to make a difference.  I will not let you down. I will forever be grateful for the generosity that you have showered upon me and I wish nothing but the best for the UST Engineering Alumni Association.

May God bless you and the USTEAA (USA) always.

Respectfully yours,
